Zeitsprünge: Performative approaches to Caspar David Friedrich on 13 July 2024 at and in CUBIC

To celebrate the big anniversary “250 Years of Caspar David Friedrich – From Greifswald to the World”, art-cube – Raum für zeitgenössische Kunst e. V. is planning a special event, with the Performance Day on July 13, 2024. The project “Zeitsprünge – performative Annäherungen an Caspar David Friedrich” will take place in and around the CUBIC artspace on Karl-Marx-Platz in Greifswald.

From 3 to 6 p.m. on the day of the event, performative works of art are going to be presented to the public. Eight invited artists and two duos have been working on various aspects of Friedrich’s work. Their work will be presented in different types of contemporary art as performances, performative installations, happenings or action art. Art reception in motion that strikes us: (Historic) Romantic issues are transferred to present times.

Participating artists: Ted Behrens, Astrid Brünner, Yvonne Dombrowski, Marie Donike & Johannes Specks (duo), Janine Gerber, Kapella – Karen Kunkel & Peter Tucholski (duo), Anne Marte Overaa, Stefanie Rübensaal, Marcus Schramm, Pauline Stopp. Their presentations will all take place on Karl-Marx-Platz – either in CUBIC itself, on the CUBIC stage or quite close to the CUBIC.

It is even possible to become part of a work of art. The artist Anne Marte Overaa has developed the work Kreti & Pleti for the performance day. The work consists of pairs of lovers wearing caps with patches and kissing in public spaces. Become part of the performance piece Kreti & Pleti, a tribute to the romantic genius in all of us! And this is how it works:

  • Receive embroidered badges. (can be picked up at Studio Galerie Greifswald).
  • Sew the patch on your hats/caps.
  • Go out in public on July 13 in Greifswald and wear the hats with badges.
  • And then kiss each other.
