Black lines on a white background – expand in different directions, move through the room in a certain rhythm, a pattern emerges. A stone.
The floor work by the artist Ricarda Hoop could be viewed as a free play of lines, as an abstract and non-objective composition. But the elements are ordered, take up geometric designs of shapes and ornaments, form structures and repetitions, play with superimpositions and shifts.
The interior of the Kunstkubus CUBIC, exhibiton site, appears like an abstract image of an urban outdoor space reduced to black and white lines and patterns. Abstracted from the rhythm of the joints and shapes of urban pavement and tiled walls, overgrown by organic lines, exaggerated by movements and traces. The upper picture frieze in the upper part of the exhibition site as a drawn band acts like a panorama – an all-round view in front of an inner eye.
The Cube can thus be understood as a kind of “space” – a space between the outside of the environment and the inside of our perception – as a white bracket between triggers and impressions. The Leipzig artist’s installation remains in a state of suspension, oscillating between points of reference and openness and allowing for further and diverse interpretations. Ricarda Hoop was selected with her work “en passant” in this year’s nationwide OPEN CALL by the art association art-cube e.V. and invited to the exhibition.
