REVIEW: Installation and slide projection for the art project ‘ZEITSPRÜNGE – Friedrich heute’ until 21 January 2025

A chair flies through the air, colourful fruit hangs from the ceiling, a flag with painted clouds lies spread out on the floor – and motifs by Caspar David Friedrich are traced on transparent foils arranged throughout the space.

In the slide projection, which becomes visible in the dark evening hours, these elements can be seen in action – the chair floats for a brief moment through the ruins of Eldena Abbey, the fruit hangs from a tree with a view of Greifswald harbour, the flag flutters on the nearby coast and the transparencies with image quotations merge with various backgrounds to form new motifs. These objects were material for performances in places that Caspar David Friedrich immortalised in his paintings. The artistic interventions were planned and staged as performative actions that take up this pictorial world and process, alienate and expand it using contemporary means and themes.

In this sense, the art project ‘ZEITSPRÜNGE’ is about an artistic update to explore contemporary question of the romantic topic nowadays – in the stretched observation, in the fleeting moment, in the hovering, as a kind of memory through the interaction of familiar motifs.

Participating artists as art-cube-artist-team:

Astrid Brünner, Karen Kunkel, Marcus Schramm, Pauline Stopp and Iris Vitzthum.

Exhibition period: 12 DEC 2024 – 21 JAN 2025
