Signs on the Wall: An exhibition by students, running until 22 March 2026 at CUBIC

“Signs on the Wall” is the title of the current exhibition at CUBIC, which runs through March 22, 2026. The paintings, assemblages, and sculptures have been arranged at the CUBIC as a spatial installation by sixth-grade students from the Kinderkunstakademie in Greifswald, under the educational guidance of Kathrin Kirstein.

On the wall is a large painting depicting a unique scene – a massive mammoth and two human figures, Stone Age people, hunting the animal. Another large figure appears to be on the lookout, observing various animals nearby. A small deer is grazing – yet the green ground is littered with plastic waste.

The space in the CUBIC is draped with fabrics and lined with animal skins, giving it the feel of a rustic living space, a cave with images and materials on the walls. Modern images, motifs, lettering, and materials have been added to contrast with the “primitive images,” addressing current issues such as climate change, environmental pollution, and other crises.

In the art project “Signs on the Wall,” students from the Kinderkunstakademie explore Stone Age Art and ways of life, combining them with forms of expression found in Street Art and other modern art techniques such as collage and assemblage.
